What to Expect
There is no patient sedation or restraint required and the experience is usually pleasant and comforting to pets.Although improvement is often seen after the first visit, most patients require several treatments (3 to 8) for greatest benefit. For most conditions, a multi-visit treatment plan is recommended. Treatments vary in length, but most sites require 2 to 8 minutes. A majority of patients exhibit greater comfort and mobility within 12 to 24 hours after a laser treatment. Most pets do not need to have their hair clipped. Class IV Laser Therapy treatments are cumulative in nature. The length and frequency of treatments varies with your pet's condition.
Laser Therapeutic Effects
During each painless treatment, laser energy increases circulation, drawing water, oxygen, and nutrients to the damaged area. This creates an optimal healing environment that reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasm, stiffness, and pain. As the injured area returns to normal, function is restored and pain is relieved.
Cellular Effects of Laser Therapy
During Laser Therapy the infrared laser light interacts with tissues at the cellular level, and metabolic activity increases within the cell, improving the transport of nutrients across the cell membrane. This initiates the increased production of cellular energy that leads to a cascade of beneficial effects, increasing cellular function and health.
Reintroduction to Activity
Laser Therapy can relieve pain, reduce swelling and increase range of motion. Often the pet will exhibit renewed energy and freedom of movement. A gradual introduction of activity may be suggested to insure the patient does not aggravate the condition.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it hurt? What does a treatment feel like?
There is little or no sensation during treatment. Occasionally the patient feels mild, soothing warmth, or tingling. Areas of pain or inflammation may be sensitive briefly before pain reduction.
Are there any side effects or associated risks?
During more than twenty years of use by healthcare providers all over the world, very few side effects have ever been reported. Occasionally some old injuries or pain syndromes may feel aggravated for a few days, as the healing response is more active after treatment.
How is the Class IV K-Laser different from other lasers?
K-Laser is a high-power, dual-wavelength therapy laser that can provide immediate relief from chronic pain. It penetrates approximately 4cm and is 16 times more powerful than any Class 3B Laser.
Has effectiveness been demonstrated scientifically?
There are thousands of published studies demonstrating the clinical effectiveness of Laser Therapy. Amongst these, there are more than one hundred rigorously controlled scientific studies that document the effectiveness of laser for many clinical conditions.
How long has laser therapy been utilized in pain management?
The laser was invented in 1960 and the biostimulative properties of laser light were first discovered in 1967. Therapy lasers have been used in Europe much longer than in the United States. The United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) first cleared therapy lasers in 2002, and Class IV lasers in 2003.
What is the power of most laser therapy devices on the market?
Laser therapy devices being used in the US today range in power output from 5 milliwatts to 12,000 milliwatts. Class 3a lasers are 5 milliwatts, Class 3b range from 5 to 500 milliwatts, and a Class 4 laser is any greater than 500 milliwatts (or half a Watt).
The K-Series Class 4 therapy laser has power adjustable from 0.1 to 8 Watts in the K-800 model, and 0.1 to 12 Watts in the K-1200. The adjustable power allows for a wide range of treatment protocols. Class 4 Laser Therapy delivers a therapeutic dosage to a large volume of tissue in a shorter period of time.
About K-Laser
Built upon a solid foundation of European research and development, K-LaserUSA has earned worldwide recognition for its therapy and treatment solutions. The K-LaserUSA development team is dedicated to offering the most advanced technologies to our clients, with a never-ending dedication to innovation. The K-Laser Class IV Therapy Laser, also known as the K-Series, offers comprehensive solutions with flexible architecture to keep you prepared for the challenges of the future.
The K-Laser Story of Innovation reveals how K-LaserUSA is setting the standard in Class IV Laser Therapy. In the 1990's, Class IV laser therapy was established in Europe. Doctors and Clinicians utilizing laser therapy recognized the need for higher power giving higher dosages at treatment depths and shorter treatment times. Up to the end of the 20th Century, Class IV therapeutic laser technology became mainstream in Europe, and the K-Laser was introduced in Italy in 2002.
At about that time, the first Class IV therapeutic laser gained market clearance by the United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA), and the first models of the K-Laser gained FDA clearance in March of 2005. Early adopters were quick to realize the benefits of K-Laser treatments from both a clinical and financial standpoint.
As a company, K-LaserUSA has shown steady and solid growth. And the K-Laser equipment has continued to evolve and become 'standard of care' in hundreds of human and animal treatment clinics across the United States. In 2007, the Zoom Handpiece was introduced, along with a 10 Watt Class IV therapy Laser. The unique and exclusive Intense Superpulse mode was developed and implemented in 2008. The following year saw the introduction of the integrated clinical handpiece, along with the launch of the K-Series.
